Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in March were an estimated 8.07 million metric tons (Mt), a 1.4% increase from 7.96 Mt in March 2024, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through March totaled an estimated 19.8 Mt, a 7.5% decrease from those for the same period in 2024.
Of total blended tonnage reported year-to-date in 2025, 11.6 Mt (97%) was estimated to be portland-limestone cement (Type IL); the leading destination for Type IL shipments by tonnage was Texas.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in March were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, Florida, California, Georgia and North Carolina, in descending order) received 44.4% of shipments during the month.
Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 184,000 metric tons (t) in March compared with 186,000 t in March 2024. Shipments for the year through March totaled an estimated 483,000 t, a decrease of 8.9% from those for the same period in 2024. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in March were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and California; these states received 61.2% of shipments in March.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 4.92 Mt in March, a 10.6% decrease from production in March 2024. Production for the year through March totaled an estimated 12.9 Mt, a 15.3% decrease from the same period in 2024. The leading clinker-producing states in March were, in descending order, Texas, California, Florida, Alabama and Missouri.
